JAWS 16 Features

The following describes the new features available in JAWS 16.

  • Improved JAWS responsiveness with announcing results when performing a search from the Windows 8.1 Start Screen.
  • Updated various JAWS messages in the Math Viewer to use more math oriented descriptions such as expression, whole expression, partial expression, and so on.
  • Improved overall performance when rendering MathML content, especially with complex expressions.
  • Some customers reported that they were unable to use the Convenient OCR feature to recognize a PDF document when installing JAWS on a computer with JAWS 15. This has been resolved.
  • A new FSReader Getting Started DAISY book is now available in German.
  • Resolved an intermittent issue with Forms mode not always working as expected in the Search for JAWS Commands window.
  • Addressed a customer reported issue where it was not possible to save a new voice profile using SAPI 5 64-bit.
  • Resolved issues with changes made in the Customize Punctuation dialog box in Settings Center not being saved properly.
  • When using a Vocalizer Expressive voice other than a United States English voice, resolved an issue where the speech rate would unexpectedly slow down in certain circumstances.
  • Addressed issues using the SpeechLab Hungarian SAPI 5 voice Gergana with JAWS.
